Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapters are Illegal

According to the licensing company that is in charge of the HDMI specification, Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters are illegal, and may possibly be recalled. HDMI LLC marketing director[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Charlene Wan has confirmed that to meet the HDMI specification, cables must include HDMI connectors on both ends. She explained that products without HDMI connectors on both ends cannot be tested according to the specification’s compliance testing procedures, which is what makes the cables sold by Apple, Belkin, and various OEM PC makers illegal. HDMI LLC has yet to demand a recall, but has legal bounds to do so, and would be able to go as far as revoking a company’s rights to make or sell HDMI products. The fix, says Wan, is to instead use an adapter that utilizes a male DisplayPort and female HDMI connector.
