There are two versions of DayZ: a MOD version (created using ARMA II: Combined Operations) and a Standalone version created by the same DayZDevTeam as well as by Bohemia Interactive.

The two versions are unique products, with the Standalone game using a more advanced engine not limited by the constraints of the MOD's limited access to the ARMA engine.

The MOD continues to be supported independently even after the release of the Standalone version.

DayZ Standalone runs on the "ARMA 2.5" engine, with "Rocket" serving as project lead at Bohemia Interactive.
