An important update for Ryzen7000X3D processor owners

Several AMD Ryzen 7000X3D owners have reported CPU and motherboard failures. We acknowledge the incidents/issues and have been communicating with AMD to analyze the possible causes. We have also contacted affected users to provide support and collect additional information.

Ryzen 7000X3D processors do not allow for CPU ratio or CPU core voltage tuning (CPU overclocking) but do allow for performance tuning and DRAM overclocking via PBO2 and EXPO memory. To support EXPO and/or memory overclocking at DDR5-6000 and beyond, SoC voltage has to be sufficiently increased to ensure compatibility and stability. The amount of voltage required varies between CPU samples. Some processors are more sensitive to overvoltage than others, and some are capable of running higher memory frequencies without needing as much voltage.

As confirmed with AMD, any intentional manipulation of these settings can damage the processor, socket, and motherboard. To mitigate this, we have been working with AMD to define new rules for EXPO memory and SoC voltage. To help protect the CPU and motherboard, we are issuing new EFI updates to limit the maximum available SoC voltage to 1.3V.

We recommend updating your motherboard UEFI BIOS to the latest release. Please also ensure the CPU is cooled adequately. Our recommendation is to use at least a 240mm AIO liquid cooler or high-performance air cooler.

If you have been affected, please do not hesitate to contact ASUS support for your region.

στο asus είχε χρησιμοποιήσει beta bios (1101)
κι ένα σχόλιο που έχω διαβάσει

This is NOT limited to X3D or Asus. The most reports are from those 2 thouhg.
Asrock also had a beta bios release 3 days ago (20th) with "Update AGESA ComboAM5 1.0.0.6" the same as Asus.

I believe this is related to some faulty base settings on mobos or some overtuning. As X3D were said are more "sensitive" to thermals/voltage they are showing this sooner than rest. I also strongly believe that if we would never see a X3D variants here and did not catch this and bios upgrade asap, this would kill some unknown amounts of X and non-X variants over time.

UPDATE:

AMD was quick to respond and provide a pre-paid shipping label for the RMA. I also heard from ASUS a little latter, who also offered replacements. It just came a little to late as to reduce downtime and for some stellar analysis content I had already sent them off to Steve. Bless. No shade to ASUS though, It's only been 1 business day and this occurred end of week. Both AMD and ASUS have done a fantastic job in trying to make this right. I do feel for AMD and ASUS here as they did request that the parts be sent to them. It would have been good to have them get it first to provide an official solution quicker. Sorry guys.

• I did attempt to update the BIOS to 1101 from 0922 during installation, however due to issues with EXPO profiles being unstable and not POSTing, I returned to 0922. 1101 states "Improve system performance and stabilize AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D series processors", not that the your CPU and MOBO die and become murder and mystery.

The last point is my main suspicion, and that the BIOS update needs to be made mandatory. The sad part is, if you do that EXPO profiles will not work for this QVL memory, but it is better than frying everything. This is speculation. I think it is reasonable to think that not updating ones BIOS should not do this. Sure recommended, but not necessary. If so, it might be time for the industry to do BIOS updates without a CPU, with versions only supporting a qualified list.

Εγώ πάλι απορώ γιατί υπάρχει ακόμα 1080p και ακόμα χειρότερα εμφανίζεται και σαν μέτρο σύγκρισης σε bench.... αν έχεις 700€ + για κάρτα ε το λιγότερο που μπορείς είναι να δώσεις και κάνα φραγκο να πάρεις καμιά οθόνη της προκοπής με 1440p >100hz και free/g sync, και στο κάτω κάτω μια οθόνη την κρατάς πολύ, δεν είναι κάτι που υποχρεούσαι να αλλάξεις συχνά.
