"It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM," said Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games. "We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."

XCOM: Enemy Unknown move aside; Xenonauts is a true XCOM remake that is slated for release this year | DSOGaming | The Dark Side Of Gaming

1. Gaming Everything » Blog Archive » First XCOM: Enemy Unknown details

2. νέα screenshots

Been following the thread a bit, and thought I would make an account just to share what I read in the latest GI magazine:

what has been removed:

-time units: simplified to move -> action

-ammo clips, as it is now infinite (however, these two are counterbalanced by reloads now eating up a soldier's whole turn)

-the "basic" attack has been simplified to one option (no aim/snap/auto)

-Aliens might not be affected by morale anymore (as the article only mentioned humans)

what has been added:

-There is a level-up system for soldiers: experience is given by performance (and bonuses from doing things like keeping everyone alive), and a choice between two bonuses are given every level-up which is determined by the next change...

-soldiers have classes (so far revealed: assault, support, heavy, sniper) that are randomly determined on their first level-up (a scary notion actually, as you could mass purchase recruits for a high strength stat only for him/her to end up being support/sniper)

-aliens and humans can have special abilities dependent on race and class respectively. (mutons have a battle cry-ish ability and the heavy has supression that "stuns" a unit for a turn).

-speaking of mutons, they're essentially pink, hairless apes now in appearance. the cyberdisc can also transform between two forms: the original disc which is now immune to damage but unable to attack and a spider form that can attack

-new enemy that is essentially slenderman. Is probably scarier than a chryssalid as it's just as fast while being able to jump high enough to bound a building just to vomit all over your sniper.

-speaking of dying gruesome deaths like vomiting, certain kills will also destroy a units armor and weapons. plasma weapons were one example of kills that make a dead unit's equipment unsalvagable

-either humans or sectoids have REALLY low health as one screenshot showed someone with a pitiful 6/6 health.

-there is also an overwatch mode available to both sides, but I will admit that I am unsure of what it means.

-geoscape wise, radars have been replaced with satellites (though they still have limited ranges), all countries have a panic meter attached to them detailing how close they are from dropping funds, keeping these bars low might be dependant on more than just missions as countries can make trade requests (one example was japan willing the give 6 engineers for the laser rifles the player just researched), and specific countries have bonuses that are unlocked after giving complete coverage over the nation so you won't just focus on defending europe and the USA again (one example was Africa providing a large amount of resources that are now required for manufacturing).

-Superhuman difficulty is now called classic

the same:

-pretty much the rest of the geoscape screen, even base management and building that has a few new additions such as military school (leveled up units can be placed in the school to learn a passive bonus that affects the whole team in battle).

-units still die when dead

-HWPs are now called SHIVs but essentially are the same (with some customization available when built), gaining no experience and being immune to psionics. also...

-psionics, watch out for mind control and panic attacks. also...

-panic from loss from morale. mentioned it earlier but might have additional effects now like a possible accuracy reduction (gleaned from "shaky grenade throw"). could also mean randomly throwing grenades out of fear, but that's just silly.

-reactions are back (the unit that died was killed by a reaction from a muton when it wasn't the alien's turn)

-destructible environments, though no specifics

something odd:

-you can edit a soldier's appearance. some odd options appear as well such as country and nicknames separate from their real names. Possibly role-player's dream come true?

difference from console:

-the PC version will have camera angles the console version won't have ala dragon age: origins.

Also, please don't ask for pics. I don't have the means to get a quality picture and someone else with the magazine can possibly vouch for me. For me, seems promising although they also mentioned that they're is going to be no changes as the game is in a fully working alpha state (now it is just in the bug squashing phase). Also, I'm mostly comparing to the first as I haven't played the others.

Edit: Almost forgot, I assumed that soldier stats are still in the game as one screen shot had the soldier's aim stat calculated into his chance to hit (which is supposedly at 65 and being boosted by 16 due to LMG range and dropped by 20 from the LMG itself)
