Pacific Crest analyst Evan Wilson has said Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops is accumulating pre-orders faster than Modern Warfare 2.

According to the analyst, the game could move 12 million units during the holiday season, giving it a 20 percent increase over his previous holiday estimate of 10 million units for the title.

Wilson changed his projection after speaking with Pacific Crest retail contacts, which cited more preorders for Black Ops than MW2 this time last year.

However, Wilson said with each Call of Duty title setting sales records with each release along with excellent long-tail sales, the trend ended with Modern Warfare 2.

Wilson said Black Ops is unlikely to have as long of a tail as MW2 due to “competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation”.

Josh Olin Heads to New York City Treyarch’s community manager Josh Olin, alias JD_2020 on Twitter, recently tweeted that he is heading to New York City, USA for a Black Ops Media Tour.

Of course, nobody in the community is quite sure what this will entail and if we’ll be on the receiving end of some new Black Ops information but speculation is widespread. Word in the community is that within the next couple weeks we’ll be treated to our first look at Black Ops’ Multiplayer game mode. At the time of this writing, this is pure speculation although Josh Olin has stated that we should expect MP info in the coming weeks.

In other MP news, Sony PlayStations UK website has recently listed Call of Duty: Black Ops as being 1-24 players online. With this statement coming from such a reputable source as Sony, we have confidence that it is not a mistake.

Ναι οντως αυτο ειναι ενα θεμα αλλα ας δουμε το full video multiplayer στις 1 σεπτεμβρη!! Activision είναι αυτη δεν πιστεύω να μας απογοητεύσει.

Ας μη ξεχναμε οτι θα έχει dedicated οποτε θα υπάρχουν servers που θα είναι κομμενοι και ραμμενοι για όλα τα γούστα και επίσης έχουν κόψει πολλα απο το mw2. Ελπίζω να μην εχει anticheat το vac γιατι είναι τρύπιο απο παντού, δεν πα να κάνεις report το ίδιο και το αυτο!!

Εγω θα το τσιμπησω για 3 λογους

1) μεγαλο μερος απτο "πελατολογιο" μου στο steam εχει παρατησει τα versus και scavenge στο L4D για χαρη του modern noobfare, το κοκαλακια τους εχουνε αφησει, 500-600 hrs total απτον νοεμβριο, wtf ε αμα το τσιμπησουν σιγουρα θα το παρω κι εγω, μου εχει λειψει το κρεας τους

2) Απτο teaser φαινεται να εχει αρκετο χαβαλε, το αυτοκινητακι θυμιζει frontlines :D

3) Dedicated servers και σκυλισια ( εστω και ξεπερασμενη ) μηχανη γραφικων, απτο να το βαζανε σε καμια Unreal 3 ή idtech 4 engine ( ΑΠΑΠΑΠΑΠΑΠΑ ) το προτιμαω, για τον ιδιο λογο δισταζω να τσιμπησω το νεο moh παρολο που θα γουσταρα bf3 beta, gay netcode + αθλια αισθηση σε gtx 4XX = no deal

Ελπιζω να βρω κανενα καλο bargain, θυμαμαι τον ιανουαριο του 2008 ειχα παρει ταιλανδεζικο cod4 στα 24 ευρω, την prestige λεω να την παρω για το μικρο μου ξαδερφακι, RC cars ftw

Campaign/General Info

* Josh Olin said that Treyarch has taken no cues whatsoever from Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 in terms of the game’s story. It is described as “completely original”.

* When asked about the game’s story, Josh Olin stated:

“We’re not there to tell history and we’re not there to make any political stances, it’s strictly there to be an entertaining game. So when you play through the story you’re going to get, it’s pretty awesome, it’s a rollercoaster ride for sure.”

* When asked about how Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and now Sledgehammer Games work in tandem, Olin stated that they have no relation whatsoever with each other, and that each company develops their games without input or influence from the other two.

* Two new weapons were seen in game during press-only gameplay demos. These were the KS-23 Shotgun and the Makarov pistol.

* It has been confirmed by the user pcdev (confirmed to be a Treyarch employee) on the Call of Duty forums that Treyarch plans to open Black Ops on the PC to modding after the game’s release. It is unknown how extensive the modding ability will be.

* Developer Console has also been confirmed for PC.

Multiplayer

* Josh Olin said that the point of the MP Teaser that was released earlier this month was “To create more questions than answers.”

* Olin also stated that he expects a great deal of surprise from the community when multiplayer is fully revealed on September 1st.

I think they’re going to go, ‘Holy s**t, we didn’t see that coming’.”

* Olin has continued to stress that they have taken great strides to prevent hacking, glitching, and general cheating in Black Ops.

* A large part of their fight against hacking will include the use of server-side hotfixes. These will be deployable almost immediately, foregoing the time it takes for game patches to be released over PSN and XBL.

* Olin has said that the player customization in Black Ops will allow players to create their own identity and play the game the way they want to.

Josh Olin teaser multiplayer reveal details, plus news on site updates

It was revealed at the end of the multiplayer teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops that there would be a full reveal of the multiplayer component of the game on September 1st. Josh Olin, Treyarch community manager, has now teased some more details about that reveal via his Twitter page.

@homiciderabbit September 1st will be a HUGE deep-dive reveal of #CODBlackOps MP. Not just a video of a few maps =).

The second half of the tweet is presumably a reference to Modern Warfare 2′s own multiplayer reveal event. Three maps were shown off and a whole host of weapons, perks and killstreaks revealed, but it appears that Treyarch have promised to top this.He followed up later with a similar tweet:

Remember remember the 1st of September; the Killstreaks, Attachments, and Game Modes surrendered! #CODBlackOps #MPReveal

It’s interesting that instead of focusing on weapons or maps, Olin chose to highlight attachments and game modes. Indeed, he said in an interview at Gamescom that the thing he was most excited in Black Ops was ‘some new modes that people will really like’. Apparently, we’re going to be finding out about some of these, come September 1st!

Speaking of September 1st, it looks like we will have a correspondent at the red-carpet event to bring you the best possible coverage. It’s not finalized as of yet, but assuming things work out we’ll be able to bring you a first-hand look at all the innovations in Black Ops’ multiplayer.
