BaldursGate.com has been updated with a new logo and theme song after years of dormancy; the last Baldur’s Gate game released was the console title Dark Alliance II in 2004.

GameBanshee discovered the sudden refresh is the work of Beamdog, a company formed by one-time BioWare designer Trent Oster.

While Oster would not reveal what Beamdog has in the works, he did deny any connection to an upcoming release of Baldur’s Gate II” Complete Edition.

“We’re not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we’re hoping to announce something soon,” he said.

Beamdog is behind the recently-released MDK2 HD, as well as an earlier WiiWare version of the classic BioWare action title, suggesting the company may have a Baldur’s Gate port in the works.

UPDATE: Trent Oster of Beamdog (of which Overhaul Games is a division) shared a few details over his twitter account:

There will actually be two games: Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced edition. Both Games will include the original expansions: Tales of the Sword Coast and Throne of Bhaal

The game will still use the AD&D 2nd Edition Ruleset.

There will be new content over the original games, created by some of the original developers of the Baldur’s Gate series.

The games will use the Infinity Enhanced engine, based on the latest Throne of Bhaal codebase.

Screenshots will be released next week.

The developer is very interested in supporting the modding community and has announcements in store about mods, even if nothing final has been shared yet on the topic.

Beamdog is looking into supporting as many languages as possible.

Graphics will still be 2D isometric.

Only part of the script will actually be voiced.

There will be new characters voiced by new voice actors.

All the bugs left over in the original games will be fixed.

Current plans are to release the games only as digital downloads.

UPDATE2: the official site is alive again, but it doesn’t include any relevant information besides the bare bones announcement for the moment.

UPDATE3: many were hoping for the announcement to be about a sequel to the Baldur’s Gate series. All hope is not lost, as Oster said on twitter::dance3:

Από τα τελευταία παιχνίδια που είχα αγοράσει και είχαν μέσα στην συσκευασία τον πατέρα και την μάνα τους, χάρτες, πράγματα, τώρα πια μόνο μια dvdοθήκη... θυμάμαι όταν είχα δει την εισαγωγή του, που είχα μείνει στήλη άλατος, από εκεί και μετά, δεν θυμάμαι τίποτα, απλά λιώσιμο... αυτό και το planescape, ήταν απ' το πολύ ωραία παιχνίδια που έχουν περάσει και ήμουν τυχερός που τα έπαιξα τότε, γιατί τώρα δεν προλαβαίνω πλέον να παίξω τίποτα... :p

Πολλα παιδακια θα φανε στραπατζο με το BG,μολις ο νεος μεσος gamer συναντησει το πρωτο lich στο BG2,και τον κανει κομματια θα το παρατησει σιγουρα to game(θα βλεπει στον υπνο του το lich να του λεει you should not have come to this place, this place will be your doom και θα τον πιανει κρυος ιδρωτας),για dragons και τον Κangaxx the demi-lich δεν το συζηταω καθολου,by the way την πρωτα φορα τον FIRKRAAG(red dragon στο Windspear Hills) τον σκοτωσα με τον Minsc χωρις να μου φαει ουτε ενα Hp ξερο,κολοφαρδο hit με το Vorpal Sword,ξεραθηκα στα γελια το εσωσα,και ξαναδοκιμασα χωρις το Vorpal Sword ,μου πηρε ενα 15λεπτο να τον σκοτωσω.

Οντως μαμούσε... εμένα και τα icewind dale μου αρεσαν γιατι αγαπούσα και τρελά dragonlance...

Αυτο επειδή δεν εχω καταλαβει, ειναι το παλιο που λιώσαμε ολοι αλλά enchanced, ή νέο?

Γιατι αν ειναι το παλιο, και σε 6 βδομαδες βγαινει ο διαβολος 3... ειναι λιγο θεμα και μαλλον πάει για...
