I am pleased to announce that we have two new weapons entering the fight, with a new weapon for each front!

First heading towards the eastern front we have the PPS sub machine gun for the Russians. The PPS was designed as a low cost, easy to produce replacement for the PPsH-41, albeit with a slower rate of fire. This should prove a boon to Russian assault troops who prefer more control.

And heading towards the pacific we have the Type 97 Sniper Rifle for the Japanese. The Type 97 is a marksman rifle based on the Type 38, with a lighter stock and sniper scope. Both weapons are scheduled to be included with our next content patch. Japanese marksmen who prefer the higher velocity of the Type 38 will have a new favorite weapon to bring with them.

Tripwire has also been helping the Vehicle Mod Team, working with them to produce the framework for working multiplayer troop carriers, as well as implementing a spawning system for them. These changes have been integrated into our latest beta builds, and have successfully tested. For testing purposes both teams have been equipped with a Universal Carrier, drivable and capable of carrying infantry. They are also set to spawn at active spawns (and de-spawn from ones that go inactive, as well as ones abandoned in the field). We expect the Vehicle Mod Team will be showing off more on this subject in the future as they continue their hard work to bring more vehicles on line!

We will also be at PAX Prime next week, with 4 stations set up for Rising Storm as well as demoing our up coming Ouya title set in the Killing Floor Universe.

Steam Community :: Group Announcements :: Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 Multiplayer

Tripwire Interactive is pleased to announce the release of the "Island Assault" Content Pack for Rising Storm.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7RvuYH768Q]Rising Storm Island Assault Trailer HQ - YouTube[/ame]
The pack includes the following new features for the games:

Multiplayer Campaign Mode is an all new paradigm in multiplayer FPS games – more than just a game type, it ties the game types and individual matches together into a campaign that can keep you occupied for hours. This gives the multiplayer game more depth than ever before, as individual matches now matter for the overall victory or loss in the MP campaign. Both sides battle it out to control territories on a large scale battle map, voting on which territories to attack, whether to attempt to take more territory, or to defend and try to grind down the enemy's resources. We like to say it is like a “meta-game" of Risk. This features both Stalingrad and Pacific Theater campaigns.

All new level: Betio. The tiny island of Betio was the scene of the heaviest fighting during the Battle of Tarawa in November 1943, the first major US amphibious offensive of the Pacific Theater. The map here recreates the push of the US 2nd Marine Division across the devastated island against their counterparts in the 6th Special Naval Landing Force (the Japanese 'Marines') as the US forces attempt to disable key tactical objectives such as naval guns and transmitter stations. The map favors desperate pitched defenses and assaults at all costs.

Two new weapons, one for Rising Storm and one for Red Orchestra 2. Red Orchestra 2 gets the PPS-42 submachine gun. Born out of desperation during the siege of Leningrad, the PPS-42 provides the Russians with a powerful, lightweight SMG option. For Rising Storm, the Japanese get the Type 97 sniper rifle. More accurate than the existing Type 99 sniper rifle, this weapon gives the Japanese another way to reach out and touch their enemies.

Classic Mode Refinements. While Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2 are considered by many to be one of the most hardcore shooters out there, the hardcore among the fan base have been clamoring for something even more extreme and authentic. The fans have asked and we've answered with further refinements to Classic Mode (the most hardcore gameplay mode in RS/RO2). We've made player movement changes, as well as aiming and recoil changes to make it more difficult to keep your aim on enemies resulting in longer and more intense firefights.

Default What We Are Up To - *rumbling*rts

Welcome to another exciting expedition of What We Are Up To. Today we follow the elusive game developer into his natural habitat, known as the "studio".

*rumble**rumble**rumble**rumble* so climb on in! Sorry about the noise, it can be *rumble* to hear over the engines of this Sd.Kfz. 251 we are using today. After working with the community vehicle mod team, we have decided to take the universal carrier and Sd.Kfz. 251 official! Stay tuned for Rising Storm beta updates as we will be bringing both of these vehicles up to speed in the near future there for fine tuning.

For those just joining us, the Universal Carrier is an armored troop transport built by United Kingdom forces during WWII. Used by many of the Allies (under Lend Lease) it also saw combat as a Russian troop transport and artillery mover. Chiefly equipped with a light machine gun, it also saw combat equipped with dedicated anti-tank weapons (including the German captured and modified variant with panzerschrecks!). The version we will be adding to the game is the same one included in Red Orchestra: Ostfront equipped with the Degtyaryov machine gun.

Now the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track is the other transport that we will be adding to the game. Designed to protect a squad of German infantry as it advanced, it was also equipped with a forward mounted machine gun to provide covering fire as they disembarked. Like the Universal Carrier, there were several variants outfitted for other roles including anti-tank fire. The standard version equipped with a MG-34 will be adding (again like Red Orchestra: Ostfront).

But what are vehicles, without a place to drive? Those of you who have helped in previous testing for the Vehicle Mod team know that we have been working on adding the transports into Barashka. In addition to that we will also be adding them to Rakowice and Arad 2 (and of course modders will be free to add them to their own creations).

Now that is the end of today's safari, but we will be bringing you more detailed information as we move along! We'll see you on the front!
